KICK OFF THE YEAR “WRITE”! CAMP FOR FOURTH/SEVENTH GRADERS

(September or October)

Your entire fourth or seventh grade student body (up to 150 students) will come together, along with their teachers, for an amazing Writing Academy CAMP from 9:00—2:30 at your school.  Students will only need two sharpened pencils and a pair of scissors. We furnish everything else!  This active learning day will be interspersed with Writing Pep Rallies.  In the Kick Off the Year  “Write”! CAMP students will learn the “small chunks” of thinking like authors, and therefore start off the year writing like authors.  Sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, and eliminating run-ons will be emphasized. Students will walk away with all of the manipulatives they need to understand how to thoroughly develop their ideas and write readable, interesting compositions.

MID YEAR WRITING CAMP FOR FOURTH/SEVENTH GRADERS

(October, November, or December)

The entire student body (up to 150) will come together from 9:00-2:30, with their teachers, to experience a fun day of learning.  Students will only need to bring two sharpened pencils.  We will bring all manipulatives and writing packets designed just like the TAKS test for each of your students.  As each effective planning strategy is modeled, students will be given time to apply and plan their own papers.  Idea Development will be built into students’ compositions during this planning stage. Students will experience engaging activities and games that teach how to write with VOICE.  They will then plan in their packets how they will include VOICE in their compositions.  Fun, interactive activities will be used to show students how to write catchy introductions and memorable conclusions.  Writing Academy Pep Rallies will be sprinkled throughout the day.

JUST IN TIME! TAKS WRITING CAMP FOR FOURTH/SEVENTH GRADERS

(January or February)

Everything we want students to remember on the writing portion of the TAKS test will be addressed through fun, tactile activities.  Your entire student body (up to 150) and their teachers will gather from 9:00—2:30.  Students will plan a composition in our TAKS look-alike packets.  Through games and engaging activities they will learn how to include Idea Development, VOICE, Catchy Introductions, and Memorable Conclusions in their compositions.  By using colorful, tactile manipulatives, your students will learn to write effective description.  Practical tips for succeeding on TAKS will be given, from handwriting to evoking emotion!  Writing Pep Rallies and songs (to help their brains remember the important points) will be interspersed throughout this exciting day!

END OF THE YEAR WRITING LESSONS FOR THIRD GRADERS
